Homemade Croutons Recipe
Ingredients:
- 4 cups of old bread (any type, such as baguette, sourdough, or whole wheat)
- 1/4 cup olive oil (or melted butter)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dried herbs (such as oregano, thyme, or Italian seasoning)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare the Bread: Cut the old bread into cubes, about 1-inch in size. If the bread is very stale, you can tear it into pieces instead.
- Season the Bread: In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes with olive oil, garlic powder, dried herbs, salt, and pepper. Toss until the bread is evenly coated.
- Spread on a Baking Sheet: Arrange the seasoned bread cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes, or until the croutons are golden brown and crispy. Make sure to stir them halfway through to ensure even browning.
- Cool and Store: Once done, remove from the oven and let them cool. You can use them immediately or store them in an airtight container for up to a week.
Enjoy your homemade croutons in salads, soups, or as a crunchy snack!
